Every desk setup subreddit is full of $3,000 battlestations with custom keycaps and matching everything. They look incredible. They also set unrealistic expectations for people who just need a clean, functional workspace that doesn't destroy their posture or their bank account.

Here's a complete, minimal desk setup for under $300 that covers everything you need and nothing you don't.

The Build

Desk: IKEA LAGKAPTEN + ADILS, $55

The 47" LAGKAPTEN tabletop with ADILS legs is the budget desk that refuses to die. It's big enough for a monitor, keyboard, and mouse with room to spare. The white or black-brown finishes look clean. The legs are stable enough for daily use, not premium, but functional.

Alternative: Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist for a used solid-wood desk. $30-60 gets you something built to last.

Monitor: Used 24-27" 1080p IPS, $60-80

New monitors start at $100+, but used IPS panels on Facebook Marketplace or eBay are plentiful at $60-80. Look for Dell, LG, or ASUS, 1080p IPS at 24" is sharp enough for text work and looks great. Test before buying: check for dead pixels and color uniformity.

Keyboard: Redragon K552 or Logitech K380, $30-35

Don't buy a $60 gaming chair. Instead, search for used Steelcase, Herman Miller, or HON office chairs on Facebook Marketplace or office furniture liquidators. Corporate offices regularly sell chairs that retail for $400+ for $50-80 used. These chairs were built to last 12+ hours a day, a $60 Amazon chair was built to last 12 months.
